Regional Safety Manager-South Central

Location: St. Gabriel, LA


Develop and support the Thompson Safety Culture by creating procedures to ensure compliance with the health, safety and workerís compensation laws, both current and proposed, as they pertain to Thompson Industrial Services, LLC. Anticipate changes in regulations and position the company to ensure efficient compliance with those changes. Be a source of information for the operating locations relating to current and future regulations and strategies for compliance. Monitor and evaluate health, safety and workerís compensation performance. Lead the development and training of team members in the operating locations in the areas of health, safety and workerís compensation best practices.


1. Monitor and evaluate existing health, safety and workerís compensation performance for assigned region.

  • -   Advise management for appropriate action
  •     Conduct routine workplace inspections/observations
  • -   Develop a system to periodically review all existing health and safety programs
  • -   Anticipate changes in regulations and position the company to ensure effective and efficient compliance-   

2. Manage outage support in your region

  • Coordinate coverage with the Safety Director-  

3. Proactively assist management in reducing injury, illness rates and cost by:  

  • -   Aggressively manage each injury and illness to keep it at its lowest level of recordablity.
  • -   Overseeing management of all open cases until closure.
  • -   Ensure Injury management physicians are identified in all operating areas.  
  • -   Assist in supervisors & management education in OSHA recordablity and injury management.  
  • -   Assist in development of injury prevention programs.

4. Audit and advise management of compliance issues.

  • -   Ensure compliance with local, state and federal safety laws.
  • -   Recommend solutions.
  • -   Assure issues are resolved in a timely manner.
  • -   Ensure compliance with company rules, policies and standards.

5. Review procedures and facilities to ensure compliance and improve performance.

  • -   Develop and implement standard procedures.
  • -   Review procedures and operations to ensure achievement of objectives and to evaluate effectiveness of training and implementation.
  • -   Provide training and training support to employees and contractors as appropriate.

6. Developing Relationships (External & Internal)

  • -   Develop a working relationship with all levels of customers to facilitate compliance.
  • -   Coordinate with the Regional Safety Director-Central and your regional safety managers to assure effective design and
  •     Work with DOT and Training Director for improvement items.

7. Customer Service

  • -   When requested, act as a resource to help customers solve health and safety issues related to our jobs on their sites.


  •  Bachelorís Degree in Safety or related field preferred
  •  Certifications preferred: OSHA 501, OSHA 511
  •  Excellent communication skills and computer skills (Microsoft office)
  •  5-10 years of Safety operations experience in refineries. pulp & paper and/or steel environments
  •  Must possess good administrative, public relations, and technical skills necessary to enhance overall operations
  •  Must have valid driverís license and good driving record
