Big Pump East Dispatcher-Sumter,SC

Location: Sumter, SC


The Dispatcher is for coordinating and scheduling manpower and equipment for Service Division related jobs to meet customerís quality and time requirements according to company policy with special emphasis on working safely and acquiring needed information from customers and sales personnel. Coordinates with customers, sales and service personnel relating to all aspects of business to ensure timely and reliable service is provided.


  •  Answer calls from customers, salesmen, area managers, and site superintendents. Coordinates and schedules equipment and manpower to meet customer requirements.
  •  Prepares work orders and job packets; tracks timesheets from issue to return. Maintains all required record keeping, including customer/job files and computer database.
  •  Maintains schedule board for confirmed work from current day up to one week in advance, including branch requirements and personnel and equipment status board.
  •  Maintains documentation and calendar for all future work and all non-confirmed work.
  •  Coordinates with general manager and site managers on equipment and manpower availability and daily needs.
  •  Maintains scheduled days off and vacation calendar.
  •  Develops and maintains all relevant files.
  •  Inspects Service vehicles and auxiliary equipment prior to departure and upon return.
  •  Coordinates with the maintenance department for needed repairs and servicing.
  •  Controls and tracks service employee hours daily. Ensures timesheet completion of service personnel. Reports employee time records to office manager daily.
  •  Assigns job tasks to service personnel who are working on shop time.
  •  Secures per diem for crews and maintains per diem checkbook.
  •  Updates area phone list.
  •  Maintains and coordinates with the general manager, office manager and site managers, a current employee training list for customer required orientations and other job requirements.
  •  Maintains daily communication with area manager.
  •  Participates in any area meetings or conference calls as needed.
  •  Schedules drug tests and other health related tests for current and potential employees.
  •  Issues and tracks (when applicable) standard PPE, specialized equipment, stock items and consumables required for service crews.
  •  Reviews and takes appropriate action on administrative issues as assigned by the general manager, site manager, or office manager.
  •  Maintains surveillance and security over TIS premises and equipment.
  •  Answers calls for Thompson Industrial Services as needed.
  •  Tracks all hours worked accurately and submits timely weekly to office manager.
  •  Coordinates and controls the onboarding process for all new hires (interviews, paperwork, and new hire training) with the regional recruiter, office manager and area manager.



  •  Tools, equipment, machinery used: Computers and basic computer systems (Word, Excel, etc).
  •  Working conditions: Normal office environment (on-site and off-site locations), occasional outside work, occasional travel and flexible hours needed.
  •  Physical effort required: Sitting, filing, data entry, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds on occasion.
  •  Travel required: Geographical territories can range in size depending on the customer base. Overnight travel will occasionally be required for this position based on business needs.



  •  High school education (tech school preferred)
  •  Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
  •  Excellent organizational skills
  •  Previous dispatch, logistics, and administrative/accounting experience preferred
  •  Proficient computer skills (Excel,Word)
  •  Able to work in a team environment with employees from all levels
  •  Must have excellent organizational skills and able to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously
  •  Must be flexible to meet changing deadlines and priorities
  •  Able to handle high stress while being courteous and friendly to customers and other employees
  •  Must be able to answer and respond to call
