Center of Excellence Specialist-Sumter, SC

Location: Sumter, SC


The role will focus on the development and execution of various critical functions within the Center of Excellence team.   This role will lead the outage planning and management team, be actively involved in automation development, and participate fleet management activities. Advancing our company’s outage planning and execution, and automation expertise and applications will be an exciting opportunity for any prospective candidate using some of the finest technologies and supporting personnel within Thompson.





The primary responsibility of the Specialist will be to support the design and devolvement of automation technologies and applications, and support internal divisional use of such.


Primary Job Functions of Automation:


1)      Providing training to the operations teams where required .

2)      Ensuring the operational teams have the proper readiness to support automation technologies    and applications prior to the customer requesting for them to be deployed.

3)      Proliferate automation use in every Division such that the company’s goal of 90% hands free is met.

4)      Responsible for developing new solutions and applications of Automation to achieve the customer and Thompson goals.

5)      Participate in the process of protecting newly developed technologies and applications.

6)      Participate in the development process of designing and manufacturing new technologies and new applications.

7)      Assess and assist operational automation teams and efforts and ensure they are delivering and using the automation services.

8)      Assist with strategy planning.

9)      Correspond regularly with Thompson senior management.

10)   Assist, propose and participate in employee functions.

11)   Thorough understanding of automation technologies and applications within our industry.

12)   Must have a strong technical acumen for all technologies delivered by Thompson and have the ability to discuss technologies.



The portion of the overall role will focus on the development of a strong outage management team that will support and train divisional personnel on outages and special projects. Developing and implementing process and procedures that standardize the planning and execution process that will be historically impactful to the company.


 The primary responsibility of the Specialist will be to implement standardized practices and procedures for planning and executing outages to be used throughout the company and develop and lead a team that supports and trains the operational offices with their outages and special projects.


Primary Job Functions of Outage Management Team:


1)      Develop and implement standardized outage and project planning and cost tracking tools

2)      Develop an outage team that works directly with divisional GM’s to help them plan and execute their outages and projects.

3)      Ensure that operational teams are being trained such that they can fully own and execute the established planning and cost tracking procedures.

4)      Develop an outage team that works directly with divisional GM’s to help them plan and execute their outages and projects.
